“Best African Music Performance” Is a New Category For The 2024 Grammy Awards

A brand-new category called “Best African Music Performance” will be debuted at the upcoming 2024 Grammy Awards with the aim of recognizing and promoting African music.

The official announcement of this new addition to the prestigious awards event was made on Tuesday afternoon (June 13, 2023) via Twitter.

The new category, a track and singles category, honors records that make use of distinctive regional idioms from all over the African continent, according to a statement from the Grammys.

The Afrobeat, Afro-Fusion, Afro Pop, Afrobeats, Alte, Amapiano, Bongo Flava, Genge, Kizomba, Chimurenga, High Life, Fuji, Kwassa, Ndombolo, Mapouka, Ghanaian Drill, Afro-House, South African Hip-Hop, and Ethio Jazz genres are reportedly included in the category, without limitation.
