“WE WILL CONTINUE TO DEMONSTRATE ZERO TOLERANCE FOR CRIME” – BUHARI

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday in Kano state, said his government would deal with anyone profiting from the fear and insecurity inflicted upon Nigeria.

He charged new and existing officers of the Nigerian Police Force to rise up to the challenge of defending the country against factors that are obviously determined to keep Nigerians in perpetual fear.

The president, at the Passing Out Parade(POP) of the Regular Course 4/2016 Cadets of the Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano, said his administration is working towards placing the Nigerian Police Force “amongst the most efficient security organizations in the world” using the nation’s available resources.

Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President of the federation on Media and Publicity, made this known in a statement he signed on Thursday. Buhari said his government has made an impact on security, economy, corruption, and he urged the police force to deploy more technology.

In a situation report on the fight against insecurity, Buhari said the Boko Haram insurgency, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Eastern Security Network, and banditry in some parts of the nation had been significantly dealt with some normalcy has been restored to most towns and villages, and more efforts would be put into ensuring that the same happens to all the areas suffering banditry.

President Buhari said steady progress has been made with regards to stemming the tide of communal violence, farmer-herdsmen clashes, cattle rustling and kidnapping cross the North Central and North West region of the country.

“We will continue to demonstrate zero tolerance for crime, and Those who take laws into their hands, bear arms illegally and seek to profit from a climate of fear and insecurity will be dealt with. That remains our promise to the people of Nigeria, who elected us to keep them safe and secured,” he said.

Addressing the new officers, Buhari said, “The peace and stability of our dear country will continue to be of utmost importance. You, the Police are our points men and you must rise to the occasion”

“The graduating cadets will be taking their place in Nigeria Police Force that is destined and determined to take its place amongst the most efficient security organizations in the world. This is apparent in the excellent and fruitful contributions of the Nigeria Police force in foreign peacekeeping missions.”
