Alhaji Lai Mohammed, minister of information and culture, urged Kwarans to vote for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu again on Wednesday in Lagos.
Mohammed stated that Kwarans in Lagos owe it to Sanwo-Olu and the President-Elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to assist them, as many Kwarans have prospered in Lagos due to the state’s accommodative and tolerant nature.
At a gathering in Lagos called “Kwarans in Lagos support Sanwo-Olu,” he spoke.
The event was place inside Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, and the governor was represented by his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamza.
There were a lot of Kwarans living in the state in the Molade Okoya Hall inside the arena,
including current and former political officeholders.
Representative Jide Jimoh of the Lagos Mainland, Dr. Samuel Adedayo, representatives-elect for the Apapa Federal District,
and well-known Nollywood performer Adebayo Salami (Oga Bello) were among those present.
The minister remembered that Kwara and Lagos have been associated for centuries and noted that many Kwara natives
who have achieved success in business, politics, entertainment, and other fields have resided in the state.
He revealed that his maternal grandpa immigrated to Lagos at a young age and claimed that he passed away and was buried there.
“Kwarans have had great success in Lagos, and they’ve used that success to build up their
neighborhoods back home in Kwara. Numerous positive things have been accomplished
in their various communities in Kwara as a result of the fortunes made in Lagos.
Without the tranquility and harmony we experienced in Lagos, this would not have been feasible.
Lagos and Kwara are like Siamese Siblings. Our fates are intertwined. Mohammed said in Yoruba,
“Without peace and harmony in Lagos, there cannot be peace and harmony in Kwara.
According to him, Tinubu’s “large-heartedness” was repaid by Kwarans by endorsing Sanwo-Olu.
“Because Lagos is beneficial to everyone, our grandfathers and forefathers will not pardon any Kwaran who does not vote for Sanwo-Olu on Saturday.
We built houses here in Lagos and we also built houses in our different communities in Kwara State.
” I, the person in front of you, am what I am today because of Asiwaju.
If Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu had not chosen me to be his Chief of Staff in 1999,
who would have known me while I was conducting my legal private practice?
“By the grace of God and the support of Asiwaju, who appointed me as his Chief of Staff,
who supported me to run for governor of Kwara State, who supported me to be named as the
National Publicity Secretary of ACN before becoming a Minister, whatever I have become today is.
” I therefore beg each and every one of us to return to our districts and voting places on March 11, 2023,
and cast our votes for Sanwo-Olu. The Lagos population must now exact their retribution.
My people now have chances that they have never had anywhere else thanks to the people of Lagos.
We’ve come together to show Asiwaju and Sanwo-Olu that the residents of Kwara State in Lagos are not ungrateful.
We’ve told them to return and produce for APC. “We’ll sleep at garages and markets to cast our ballots.
We will support you (Sanwo-Olu) from the beginning to the finish. We won’t depart until Mr. Governor is proclaimed the victor and the votes are totaled.
The Deputy Governor declared that the people of Kwara would be safeguarding their history by choosing Sanwo-Olu and himself again on Saturday.
He added, “Lagos issue is not an experimental situation,” saying Lagos,
the fifth-largest economy in Africa, is too crucial to be left in the hands of “dullards.”
Alhaji Lai Mohammed instructed the Kwarans present to encourage their sons and daughters who are of
voting age to cast their ballots for the APC in large numbers, claiming that the reason the APC lost the Presidential election was because so many people did not vote.
“Let’s name what our kids are doing “Obistupid” so we can follow their lead.
We are not criminals; we are Kwarans. Let’s urge our kids to cast ballots, he continued.
It would be fire for fire, the Deputy Governor told the populace, allowing them to relax.
No movement! There will be no repercussions for you if we go vote.
